Foreign Minister Tsahkna in Morocco: Morocco has a key role between Africa and Europe

As part of his visit to Morocco with a business delegation, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna today opened a business forum on Casablanca and met with business representatives.

Opening the business forum, Tsahkna said Morocco played a key role between Africa and Europe. “Estonian companies have a lot to offer Morocco, especially on digital affairs. Morocco has set the goal of digitising public services in the coming years and they have set Estonia’s e-state as an example,” Tsahkna said, adding that Estonia was prepared to share its experience so that Morocco will not have to repeat our mistakes.

Tsahkna said that Estonian companies have first-hand experience of the challenges countries can face when building an e-state because Estonia has 30 years of experience in this field. “Even though Estonia and Morocco are far apart geographically, we share a deep interest in innovation and entrepreneurship and we can see how important they are for invigorating the economy,” he said. “I believe that if we combine Estonia’s expertise in digitalisation and Morocco’s diverse economic environment, it would create new and interesting opportunities for both of us.”

Tsahkna also encouraged Moroccan companies to use the opportunities of Estonia’s e-residency programme. “Estonia has 481 e-residents from Morocco who have registered 161 companies in Estonia. At the meeting, I explained which doors this will open to them in Estonia and on the EU common market.”
