Tsahkna at meeting with Crown Prince of Jordan: the failure of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine is in the security interests of both Europe and the Middle East

Today, 5 November, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna met in Tallinn with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, who is visiting Estonia for the Tallinn Digital Summit. The meeting focused on bilateral relations and the security situation in Europe and the Middle East.

According to Tsahkna, Estonia will continue to develop bilateral relations and cooperation with Jordan. “There is considerable potential for cooperation between Estonia and Jordan in digital solutions and cybersecurity, but we also see opportunities in the defence industry,” he said, adding that Estonia welcomes Jordan’s high-level participation in the Tallinn Digital Summit.

The discussion also covered the security situation in Europe and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. “We recognise Jordan as a good partner of both the European Union and NATO, and support strengthening our partnership,” Tsahkna said. He highlighted that Estonia encourages Jordan to maintain a principled approach and support various UN resolutions on Ukraine. “The failure of Russia’s aggression is in our shared interests and will strengthen security in both Europe and the Middle East. We must continue to put pressure on Russia through sanctions, isolation and measures to disrupt its shadow fleet, and we look to Jordan for support in this regard,” the Foreign Minister stressed.

Discussing the situation in the Middle East, Tsahkna said that Estonia condemns Iran’s attacks on countries across the region, including Jordan. “We support putting pressure on Iran to stop its attacks on its neighbours, as well as diplomatic efforts to halt Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes. We understand the concerns of Arab countries about the negative impact of the war on the region’s economy. It is also having a significant impact on global energy supplies and prices,” the Foreign Minister noted.

The situation in the West Bank was also discussed. Tsahkna commended Jordan for its contribution to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “The current situation is deeply concerning. Estonia continues to support the two-state solution, as we believe it is the only way to ensure lasting peace and security for both Israel and Palestine. We must press ahead with implementing the peace plan while continuing to put pressure on Hamas to disarm,” the Foreign Minister said.
