From 31 October to 1 November, Secretary General of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jonatan Vseviov, took part in the prestigious IISS Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain and met with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
In his address at the conference, Vseviov stressed that the international community must maintain pressure on Russia, which continues to systematically violate international law by deporting Ukrainian children and attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure. He noted that Estonia, as a small European country, understands from experience the high cost of unchecked aggression and will not allow such violence to go unpunished. Vseviov reaffirmed Estonia’s commitment to its principles and its steadfast support for Ukraine’s freedom and rights, while emphasising that the global community must not make this struggle more difficult.
Speaking on the situation in Gaza, the Secretary General welcomed peace efforts and international initiatives aimed at alleviating the humanitarian crisis.
During the visit, Vseviov met with Foreign Minister Al Zayani. In addition to bilateral relations, the meeting addressed regional and global security issues, including Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and the Middle East peace process. The two sides signed an agreement to hold regular political consultations between Estonia and Bahrain.
Vseviov also held meetings with Dr Sultan Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar; Priti Patel, Shadow Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom; Il Sung, President for the Middle East and Africa at South Korean defence industry group Hanwha; and representatives from Greece and Cyprus.
