A high-level humanitarian donorship meeting of Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) was held in Tallinn on 10 June, concluding the co-chairmanship of Estonia and the United Kingdom.
The Good Humanitarian Donorship brings together 43 donors, who together aim to increase the effectiveness, principledness, connectivity and accountability of all humanitarian actors. Both large and small actors from around the world are represented – 40 countries, the European Union and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. “Co-chairing the GHD provided a good opportunity for Estonia to be at the centre of global humanitarian policy discussions in these times of major change and to intensify our good cooperation with the UK and other major donors also in the field of humanitarian aid policy,” Maris Tippo, Director of the Humanitarian Aid Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.
Estonia co-chaired the network with the United Kingdom for two years. The coordination of the humanitarian aid delivery system served as the framework for our co-chairmanship, with an additional focus on international humanitarian law, climate finance mobilisation, the deployment of digital technologies and the use of country-specific crowdfunding to empower local humanitarian organisations.
