Today 19 June, the Estonian Government decided to allocate
€75 000 from the government reserve to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the organisation of ESTO 2025, the largest event uniting Estonians living abroad. The 13th Global Estonian Cultural Days, titled TOGETHER, will take place from 25 June to 3 July in Stockholm, Tallinn, and for the first time, in Narva.
The Global Estonian Cultural Days are a long-standing cultural event that brings together Estonians abroad. Its aim is to promote transnational Estonian identity, strengthen ties between Estonians around the world, protect Estonian culture and identity, and enhance Estonia’s sovereignty and security through soft power. The first ESTO was held in Toronto, Canada, in 1972.
This year’s ESTO will begin in Stockholm, followed by events in Narva, and will conclude in Tallinn just before the Song and Dance Festival, which this year will feature more than sixty Estonian groups from abroad. The programme in Narva aims to highlight the importance of Estonian identity in Ida-Viru County. As part of the programme, young people in Narva, together with Estonian youth living abroad, are organising a congress titled Multilingualism Opens Doors, which will be opened by President Alar Karis.
The organisation of ESTO is supported by Estonian diaspora organisations, the Estonian World Council (ÜEKN), the city governments of Tallinn and Narva, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Global Estonian Programme through project funding.
