Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General Vseviov attends the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg

Today 14 April, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jonatan Vseviov represented Estonia at the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU in Luxembourg, where the agenda included Russia’s continued aggression in Ukraine, the latest developments in the Middle East and Africa, cooperation with partners in the Western Balkans, and the situation in Georgia.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha gave an overview of the latest developments in Ukraine via video, including on Russia’s attacks on Kryvyi Rih and yesterday’s missile strike on Sumy. Vseviov called for continued efforts to raise the cost of the war for Russia and accelerate critical military assistance to Ukraine to transform the dynamics of the war.

Vseviov underlined that progress must be made with using Russia’s frozen assets for the benefit of Ukraine and stepping up cooperation in disrupting Russia’s shadow fleet.

Discussions covered closer cooperation with partners in the Western Balkans and the latest developments in Georgia and the Middle East, including the situation in Syria, and Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. Talks also touched upon EU-Africa relations, with a focus on immediate priorities and strategic prospects.
