This week, on 10 and 11 July, Secretary General of the Estonian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jonatan Vseviov, was on a visit to Berlin, Germany, where he held meetings with Germany’s Minister for European Affairs Gunther Krichbaum, State Secretary Géza Andreas von Geyr, Head of the European Directorate at the Federal Chancellery Michael Clauß, Chairman of the Bundestag Defence Committee Thomas Röwekamp, and Deputy Chair of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group for Foreign and Security Policy Norbert Röttgen.
The meetings focused on supporting Ukraine and increasing pressure on Russia’s military aggression. Discussions highlighted the importance of adopting the 18th European Union sanctions package, which would include lowering the price cap on Russian oil, and of using frozen Russian assets to support and rebuild Ukraine.
The strengthening of European security and defence was also discussed, with Germany playing a central role, as well as the need for increased defence spending among EU and NATO member states.
