Today, 9 April, in Yerevan, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna met with the President of Armenia Vahagn
Khachaturyan and the Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan to discuss bilateral relations and regional security, including the peace process. During his visit, the minister also attended an Estonia-supported cyber exercise and an export accelerator programme in Yerevan.
At the meetings, the foreign minister emphasised that the opening of Estonia’s embassy in Armenia is an important step in strengthening bilateral relations. “The partnership between Armenia and the European Union is deepening, and Estonia is ready to share its reform experience,” Tsahkna said. “The European Political Community summit taking place in May will bring together European leaders in Yerevan. The first EU–Armenia summit to follow will be important for discussing opportunities for economic development and regional security issues, as well as next steps in easing the EU visa regime applicable to Armenia,” the foreign minister added.
Regional security and the peace process were also discussed at the meetings. Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stressed that peace in the region is important for both Armenia and Europe and offers an opportunity for the country to open up more broadly.
In Yerevan, Foreign Minister Tsahkna also visited a cyber exercise focused on critical infrastructure protection, funded by ESTDEV and carried out by the e-Governance Academy and the Estonian company Cybexer Technologies. The minister also launched an ESTDEV programme implemented by the Estonian company Visionest, which aims to support the growth of Armenia’s export capacity.
“Estonia and Armenia have strong cooperation in the fields of digital development, cybersecurity, the economy and education. In 2026, we have doubled our development cooperation support to Armenia and will continue with projects where Estonia can offer strong expertise and technological solutions,” Tsahkna said.
During the visit, the foreign minister also met students at Yerevan State University to discuss Estonia’s path to the European Union and the impact of Russia’s war of aggression on European security.
