Foreign Minister Tsahkna in Santiago: Estonia and Chile are close despite our geographic distance
On 6 November, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna was on a visit to Chile’s capital Santiago, meeting with Chile’s Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren and attending the high-level conference of the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean Digital Alliance.
“While there is a lot of geographic distance between Chile and Estonia, our cooperation in various organisations and shared values make Chile one of our closest allies in South America,” Tsahkna underlined in a meeting with his Chilean colleague.
Estonia and Chile are members of the Media Freedom Coalition and Freedom Online Coalition, and they are both committed to advancing human rights in the UN Human Rights Council.
Tsahkna welcomed Chile’s support for the Peace Formula of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and for restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
At the conference of the EU-Latin America and the Caribbean Digital Alliance, Tsahkna emphasised that all countries regardless of their size should have a share of effective, inclusive and secure e-state solutions, which also consider universal human rights and freedoms, and Estonia was always ready to share its experiences in building a digital society.
