From 6 to 8 December, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna is on his first visit to Bahrain, where he attended the security conference IISS Manama Dialogue and met with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to discuss the global security situation and bilateral relations.
At the meeting, Tsahkna underlined that despite the geographic distance, Estonia and Bahrain had a lot in common. “Estonia and Bahrain are small countries of great substance. I can see we have a lot to learn from each other and many opportunities for closer cooperation, especially in innovation and digital development.”
Discussing the global security situation, both agreed that the world was facing several crises that are connected. “The world is more interconnected than ever, and respecting and restoring the rules-based international order is the only way to ensure peace, security and stability in both the Middle East and Europe,” Tsahkna said.
Today, Tsahkna will speak at the conference and meet with members of Bahrain’s cabinet and other participants of the conference.
