The day before yesterday, on 22 April, the European Commission recognised Estonian public sector experts for their contribution to advancing digital innovation and competitiveness worldwide. The recognition was awarded in the form of the TAIEX Champions Award at the celebration of the 30th anniversary of TAIEX in Brussels.
“The experience of Estonian experts in building a digital state is highly valued internationally. Their contribution helps strengthen the institutions of partner countries and supports reforms that bring countries closer to modern and effective governance,” Undersecretary Mariin Ratnik said.
TAIEX is an EU-funded instrument that provides targeted and rapid technical assistance to public sector institutions. The programme primarily supports EU candidate countries in aligning their legal frameworks with European Union law.
In addition to supporting the enlargement process, TAIEX contributes to legislative alignment in areas such as the digital transition, climate, public health and the economy, as well as to the development of the business environment. The programme is based on cooperation between experts from member states, enabling the sharing of practical experience and best practices directly from peer to peer.
Estonian experts have participated in dozens of TAIEX projects across different regions, sharing their knowledge in areas including digital governance, e-services and administrative capacity-building. In Estonia, TAIEX activities are coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV).
This year marks the 30th anniversary of TAIEX, which has become one of the European Union’s key cooperation instruments, supporting development and reforms in countries around the world.
